Looking for Alcohol Support? Here’s Where You Can Get Help! 💙🍃
Introduction to the project
We all know uni life is full of new experiences, and sometimes it can feel like social events and nights out are part of the deal. But it’s always a good idea to keep tabs on our alcohol habits to make sure they’re working for us, not against us! That’s where the Drink ReThink Student Ambassadors come in, and they’ll be around campus from 29th to 31st October to chat with you about alcohol, help you understand your drinking patterns, and offer advice on healthier habits. You’ll get a chance to fill out a quick questionnaire using Identification and Brief Advice (IBA), which is a simple, effective way to get some personalised tips on your drinking. Plus, it’s a great way to gain insight without judgment! 🍻💡
Local Resources for Support
In addition to the ambassadors, there are some fantastic local resources in Fife and Tayside to consider if you’re seeking further support:
1. DAPL – dapl.net 🌱
Based in Fife, DAPL offers free and confidential one-to-one counselling for young people, adults, and families dealing with substance use issues. Their Recovery Worker team is ready to help adults choose their own path to recovery with professional, compassionate support.
2. Fife Alcohol Support Service (FASS) – fassaction.org.uk 🌈
FASS is all about helping people in Fife tackle alcohol issues like addiction and binge drinking. Their counselling and self-help resources make it easier to cut down or quit if you’re feeling it’s time for a change. Whether you want a structured approach or just need a little guidance, FASS has your back!
3. Alcohol Change UK – alcoholchange.org.uk 🌍
This organisation works toward a society free from alcohol harm but focuses on positive change rather than saying “no” to alcohol altogether. Alcohol Change UK provides resources to support those drinking too much and advocates for high-quality, stigma-free support that you and your loved ones can count on.
4. Tayside Council on Alcohol (TCA) – alcoholtayside.com ✨
TCA has been helping people with problem drinking since 1973 and offers tailored support across Angus, Dundee, and Perth & Kinross. They’re here for individuals, families, and even professionals looking for advice on alcohol issues. TCA’s services are a great resource if you’re in the Tayside area.
Support from University Staff
At the University of St Andrews, staff work collaboratively with students to offer both one-off, one-at-a-time appointments and ongoing support as needed. Student Services delivers support through a matched care model that considers the individual needs of each student and evidence-based practice. The services provided depend on your specific needs and circumstances, including your location of study.
Whether you’re interested in talking to a Drink ReThink Ambassador, reaching out to one of these services, or just want a bit of guidance on campus, there’s support here to help you make choices that suit your goals. Keep an eye out for the ambassadors from 29th to 31st October—they’re here to chat, support, and make a positive impact right alongside you. 💬
